The Mental Plane (心的飛行機, "Shinteki Hikōki", English TV: "Subconscious") is a plane inside of one's mind that is often called the subconscious. It apparently requires a body to exist. Some appear to have greater control over their subconscious than others. Although some time in the mental plane might pass, in the real world it seems as though mere seconds go by.
Examples[]
- Tailed Beasts: Jinchūriki can share a mental plane with their tailed beast and tailed beasts can share a mental plane together. Using the Sharingan, Sasuke Uchiha entered Naruto Uzumaki's mental plane and quelled the power of Kurama.
- Summonings: When a ninja obtains a summoning contract they apparently enter into a mental plane agreement with their summoner as seen when Boruto summoned Garaga. This mental plane allows them to speak to each other for extended periods of time where only few seconds pass in real life. It explains why summonings often know the summoner's intentions before they appear on a battlefield.
- Inner Sakura: This apparently gives explanation to Sakura Haruno's alter-ego, the Inner Sakura
- Yamanaka Techniques: When Ino Yamanaka used the Mind Transfer Technique on her and forced herself into Ino's Mental Plane, Sakura's strong willpower in the form of Inner Sakura evicted Ino.
- Combat: When two shinobi or powerful people fight it is possible that they can share the same mental plane when clashing as seen when Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki battle.
- Strength of a Hundred Seal: Sakura Haruno displayed the ability to control her mental plane in her teens which allowed her to create a space to pour chakra into a reserve like Tsunade.
- Orochimaru: He seems to have combined his subconscious with space time techniques, allowing him to create a space to transfer bodies.
- Kamui: The only instance of someone without a body entering another person's Mental Plane is Dan Kato and Obito Uchiha. Obito did so to grant Kakashi the Mangekyo and a parting few words.
- Tsukuyomi: Remarkable, Itachi can use the Tsukuyomi which is said to represent the "Spiritual World and Darkness" (精神界と闇, Seishinkai to Yami), the spiritual world being the mental plane; Itachi can enter the opponents mental plane and control their perception of space and time.
- Utakata and Hotaru: When Hotaru was under the control of Shiranami, Utakata was able to connect his feelings to hers and enter her Mental Plane to speak with her despite the girl being unconscious.
Defenses[]
- The Nine Tails' seal seems to have a mental plane defense which protects its host from the tailed beast; a large gate separates them.
- The Akatsuki seem to all have mental plane barriers/defenses in their minds which impede intrusion.
