Reputation (評判, "Hyōban") is a person's standing in the world. It effects how people react to them as well as how they should generally interact with those around them. Depending on ones reputation they may be more susceptible to conflict or praise.

Types

Unknown

Both within and outside of your place of residence you are unknown to most if not all people. This means that you may be a civilian or an Academy Student with little experience. Regardless, you and your abilities are a mystery.

Examples:

Lesser Known

Although you are not exactly popular you've done something to gain a small measure of notoriety and few people have heard of you. If not by name it was by action or maybe even appearance. Actions might include missions completed, battle participation or simply being a relative or friend of someone who is more known than you. This is not limited to the land in which you come from either; foreigners might also know of you.

Examples:

Well Known

You may be listed in a Bingo Book or two, thought not for a high price. If others speak of your country or village it is possible that they mention you by name. A catchphrase or signature technique of yours is memorable and should be expected if someone sees you. This would also include your regularly used jutsu as well. When at home it is expected that you receive a measure of respect.

Examples:

Flee on Sight

One gains this status as a result of their sheer power and success in battle. For a high price you are listed in several Bingo Books. The higher ups command that if you are seen on the battlefield their soldiers must flee at once and not engage. Because of your renown however, some wait for the opportunity to face you and might even seek you out. This means that leaving the village may be dangerous. Even in your place of residence fear stops some from approaching or drawing closer to you. It is possible that you are a criminal and known for wicked acts.

Examples:

Distinguished

Although you may have other successes you are known for something other than your power and might. Political sway or government positions might make you a celebrity while financial security and a lavish life-style make you a topic of popular culture. People take pictures of you in public and ask for your autograph. You may have obtained this status by being the child of a leader or famous person. Either way, you are known by many as a Celebrity.

Examples:

Hero

Because of some heroic feat you've performed many people view you as a hero to be praised and respected. Whether in your hometown, country or across the world (can be one, two or all three) the honor you receive is nothing to ignore. As a result people expect a lot from you and hold you to a high standard. There may even be a monument in your likeness or name. Foreigners have studied your fighting techniques and wish to face you. This status is to be treated in the same way as Flee on Sight, only holding far more weight and expectation.

Examples:

Legendary

Very few obtain this title and even few possess it and are living. A legendary person is known for a very specific series of accomplishes. This is not merely one tale or success—no—you've made it your life's work to be impressive awe-inspiring. People tell stories of you and countless children grow up wishing to be you. Despite your prestige, few——in comparison to those who speak of you——actually know you intimately. There may be holidays in commemoration of your work and you are nothing short of a celebrity. All throughout the world in ninja nations and civilian cities your name is known. The very whisper of you strikes fear in foes and many people seek to study under you in hopes of obtaining your power and renown. Text books, literature, and poems may mention you. This is a weighty status to possess. A legendary person may or may not be a God of Shinobi but do possess the same renown as a Hero and Distinguished individual.

Examples:

Mythical

An extremely exceptional and unequaled status, reserved for the most unique and outstanding persons. You have become something like a myth to most because many believe that you do not even exist. Your power, success and very person is so unbelievable that many see you as folklore and impossible. Some call you a god while others speculate on your origin. If a person saw or met you they would question the validity of your existence to your face, not believing what they see and hear as a result of either shock or simple disbelief. The admiration you possess from others far outweighs what is available to even those of Legendary status. Your name is synonymous with something and people call out to it in times of need or to curse someone. Many stories and tall-tales exist of your exploits. Biographies and plays are made to tell what is believed to be your lore. There is no one else like you and there will probably never be anyone who comes close to you——you have become an Icon.
