Shimenawa Sōzō (標縄創造, Sōzō Shimenawa) was the founder of the Sozo Clan on Earth. She has origins on the planet Ninjin but left it in order to escape the war being waged against them by the Ōtsutsuki clan.

Shimenawa is from Ninjin (人参, "Carrot") or Planet Carrot, a terrestrial world located far from Earth. She arrived only 1,357 years ago according to ancient clan archives which detail the clan history from the very first moment Shimenawa arrived. She was a meticulous woman who wrote down her experiences. This would have placed her in year 152 BH, 142 years before the arrival of the Ōtsutsuki. It is said that Shimenawa was so powerful that she split from her flesh, creating her own companions to aid her in her escape. These people would become known as the first members of Earth's Sōzō clan.

- Shimenawa (標縄) can be translated to mean "enclosing rope".
- It is pronounced 'SHEE—MEN—OW—WAA'.
- Although Shimenawa shares the same name ending as most those in her clan, the kanji representing her name does not correlate, the clan's kanji being (和) which means "sum". The name comes from the sacred ropes which were used for ritual purification to ward of wicked spirits and calamity.
